AI tools that summarize any webpage: 7 picks by how you want to start

Published September 3, 2026 · UpdatedSeptember 3, 2026

Seven browser extensions that summarize webpages, grouped into three categories by how you start: tools that work right after installing, tools that run on a model you supply, and tools where summarization sits inside a larger AI toolkit. If you want to start from the page in front of you with no setup, try PageGrok.

You open a long article, a set of API docs, or a product page, and the question is usually short: what does this say, how does this part compare to the one I just read. Copying the content into another tab to ask that question breaks your attention. A summarizer extension removes that step — it reads the page already open in your browser and gives you the answer alongside it.

What a webpage summarizer extension does

A webpage summarizer extension installs into the browser and reads the content of your current tab. It produces a summary or answers a question about the page without switching windows. Products differ on three things: whether they work immediately or need setup, where the content goes to generate the answer, and whether they do more than reading pages.

Three that work right after installing

These three produce a summary without creating an account or pasting an API key first.

PageGrok

PageGrok is a Chrome side panel that reads the page you have open and answers questions about it. Built-in AI means you install it, open the side panel and ask — no email, no account, no API key. A free trial is included; after that there is an optional pass at US$5 for 500 answers over 30 days.

Main capabilities

Full-page parsing and region selection. Whole articles go through full-page parsing. On cluttered pages — long forum threads, product pages with specs mixed into reviews — you can select one region or several non-adjacent ones to ask about, merged into a single piece of content, with navigation and ads left out.

Three suggested questions after parsing. You do not have to invent the first question on a page you just opened. Those three are replaceable with your own, up to five stored.

Follow-ups reuse the parsed content. From the second question onward the page is not read again, so the answer comes faster and the context stays on the same content.

The model is switchable. Built-in AI, Ollama, LM Studio or oMLX on your own machine, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint with your own key. Running a model on your own machine means page content stays on that machine.

Glarity

Glarity is an open-source extension by Felo Inc. that generates summaries of webpages, YouTube videos, Google search results and PDFs. Install it and a summary panel appears when you open a supported page. It comes with a free built-in mode for YouTube and Google summaries; for other features, you can connect your own API key. Translation is built in, with four engines available.

Main capabilities

Summaries on page load. Open a YouTube video, a Google search page or a webpage, and a summary panel appears without clicking a button first.

Webpage Q&A and custom prompts. Beyond the initial summary you can ask follow-up questions about the page content, and the summarization prompt is replaceable with your own.

Four translation engines. LLM-based, DeepL, Google Translate and Microsoft Translator are available side by side, with mirror translation that shows source and translation together.

Open source. The code is on GitHub, so you can inspect what it sends and where.

Kimi Copilot

Kimi Copilot lists kimi.tools as its developer, and its store description states that the extension is built by third-party enthusiasts and is not an official Kimi.ai or Moonshot AI product. Sign in to a Kimi account, then press Ctrl+Shift+K on any page for a one-click summary. The interface is Chinese only.

Main capabilities

One-click summary from a keyboard shortcut. Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+K produces a summary of the current page without opening a panel first.

Video and PDF pages are covered. YouTube, Bilibili video pages and PDF pages are in scope, giving a written overview before you commit time to the full thing.

The summarization prompt is editable. When the default framing does not fit, you replace it with your own and every later summary follows it.

Summarization is the whole feature set. The store description says it does one-click summarization only, so there is nothing else to learn before the first use.

Best for

Two that run on your own model or API key

These two send page content to a model you supply — a server on your own machine or a cloud API endpoint you hold the key for. Content does not pass through their servers.

Webpage Summary

Webpage Summary is an open-source extension by 当人科技 that summarizes the current page using any LLM API you connect. There is no built-in model, no server and no account — you paste an API key for the provider you want and the extension sends the page text directly from your browser to that provider. At 1.87 MiB it is one of the lightest summarizer extensions in the store.

Main capabilities

Any LLM API. Connect whichever provider you have a key for. The extension does not lock you to one vendor.

Custom prompts. Replace the default summarization instruction with your own, so the output fits how you read.

No server, no account. The extension runs entirely in the browser. There is no sign-up, no login and no backend that sees your content.

Open source. The code is on GitHub, and the data disclosure states it does not collect or use user data.

Best for

Page Assist

Page Assist is an open-source project that connects a chat interface in the browser to a model service running on your own machine. It supports Ollama, Chrome’s built-in AI and several OpenAI-compatible endpoints. Before using it you configure a provider and a model, and that step must be finished before the first conversation.

Main capabilities

General chat interface. A full conversation window inside the browser, with topics not limited to the current page.

RAG. Index your own documents, then have questions answered from material retrieved out of them.

Web search. Let it search during a conversation and bring what it finds into the answer.

Several model providers. Local model services and OpenAI-compatible endpoints both connect, so you can switch models by task.

Best for

Two where summarization is part of a larger toolkit

These two reach beyond reading pages, with writing, translation, image generation and automation inside one subscription. When your needs spread across those tasks, one entry point covering all of them saves effort.

Sider

Sider lists Vidline Inc. as its developer, and it puts several kinds of AI work behind one side panel: chat, browser-agent automation, coding that rewrites websites, and image, video and slide generation, plus YouTube summaries, ChatPDF, translation, read-aloud, data analysis and speech-to-text. The subscription has three tiers; its pricing page states that all plans include all features, with tiers differing in monthly credits and cloud computer specification. Prices switch currency by region — check its pricing page for the exact amount.

Main capabilities

One-click page summary and sidebar chat. Summarize the current page or hold a conversation next to it, which is the starting point for most users.

Browser-agent automation. Have the AI carry out a sequence of actions in the browser rather than only answering questions.

Multi-model support. Switch between models inside the same interface, with the subscription covering the cost.

Creative tools. Image, video and slide generation sit in the same panel, without switching to another tool.

Monica

Monica lists BUTTERFLY EFFECT PTE. LTD. as its developer, and its capabilities cover an AI agent, deep research, slide generation, a browser operator, image and video generation, side-by-side webpage and PDF translation, a Memo knowledge base and search enhancement. Its free tier allows 40 basic-model requests a day, and Pro is US$8.3 per month or US$99 per year.

Main capabilities

Webpage summary with side-by-side translation. Summarize a page and, when it is in another language, read the translation next to the source text.

AI agent and browser operator. Hand over a multi-step task and let it work through the steps in the browser for you.

Deep research. It gathers material around a topic on its own and organizes the result.

Slide and image generation. Material you have organized can go straight into slides without changing tools.

How to choose

Start with how much has to happen before the first summary. Some tools summarize the moment you open them. Some require an account, and some require a model service on your machine. The length of that step decides whether you actually keep using it.

Then look at where the content goes. A summarizer extension reads what is in your current tab, including pages visible only after signing in. Hosted services send that content to their servers; when the model runs on your machine or you hold the API key, you know exactly where it goes.

Check whether you can follow up. A one-click summary is fast, but if you usually ask three to five more questions afterwards, a tool that supports follow-ups saves the round trips.

Check whether the scope is what you need. If you mostly open the extension to ask what a page says, a focused tool is enough. If you also write, translate and generate images with AI, one subscription covering all of it saves more.

Closing

None of these seven is the best choice for every situation. The focused ones work their one job in more detail, and the broad ones remove the switching between tools. Work out what you most often do when you want to make sense of a page, then choose from the matching group.

FAQ

Which webpage summarizer works right after installing?

PageGrok answers questions about the current page as soon as you open the side panel, using built-in AI. There is no account, API key or model server to set up first. A free trial is included.

Can I summarize just part of a page instead of the whole thing?

PageGrok's selection mode lets you pick one region of the page and ask about only that, leaving navigation and ads out. Most other summarizers work on the full page.

Is there a free webpage summarizer with no message limit?

When you connect your own model through Ollama, LM Studio or your own API key, PageGrok and Page Assist cost nothing to run and have no message cap. Webpage Summary also runs on your own API key with no built-in limits.

Do these extensions read pages behind a login?

Sidebar extensions read the text already rendered in your current tab, which includes signed-in pages and dynamically loaded content. What they can read is what you can see.

Try it on the page you are reading right now

Built-in AI works with no setup and no account. You can also connect a local model.
